The world is getting more and more competitive every day and the competition is comparatively much more severe in the job market. For even very simple jobs, hundreds of applicants drop their Curricula Vitae for only one vacancy. Employers often do not have enough time to read each curriculum vita and then proceed for hiring employees. Most of the times, employers just take a bird’s eye view at every resume or CV and try to notice something attractive that makes a resume special. Nonetheless, what are those facts that make a resume special?
These facts are the buzzwords! More specifically, those buzzwords, which are are relevant to your academic background, employment story and applied job. However, choosing and putting the perfect buzzword in the resume is of immense importance. Poorly chosen buzzword would not only create bad impression on the employer’s mind, but it will also mark the resume red for future hiring in some cases.
Consider a case where applicants have applied for the position of manufacturing team leader. In one application, one applicant mentioned his proficiency on production in his resume only as ‘proactive’. Contrary, another applicant mentioned his complete achievements in detail such as how much he or she has increased the productivity in his prior company. Take the buzzword ‘proactive’. This buzzword is noticeable and eye catching, but not perfect for describing your proficiency in this regard. ‘Proactive’ is more applicable in the cases where your enthusiasm is required to focus for getting a job like quick decision taking ability.
The second application, although, does not contain any eye catching buzzword, yet, this is more noticeable and eye catching fact because it focuses and highlights your skills, competence and excellence. In such cases, either you should find out a consistent and suitable buzzword that represents most of what you want to say or use broader explanation.
For better comprehension, take the following example. Someone who is experienced in web development applied for web developer and mentioned his skill using buzzword ‘state-of-the-art’ to show that how skilled he is in web development. Now, apart from this, let someone is proficient in any specific web programming language such as Joomla. He mentioned the ‘Joomla’ as a buzzword along with mentioning his expertise’s and experiences of using Joomla in web development. In both cases, there are buzzword used but the second one is more specific and hence the second applicant is supposed to get a better impression.
Getting impression slightly depends on the employers mind, but the buzzwords have also significant roles. Using a suitable and relevant buzzword would change the outlook of your resume and bring opportunities. However, if you cannot find out a perfect buzzword, do not use any or you will mess up your resume and turn it into a total embarrassment.
